The renovations for the enhanced service housing unit on the third floor of the Kampa building were completed in September, and the unit is scheduled to be operational in November. The facilities were handed over to the City of Salo at the beginning of the month.
The new care unit accommodates 30 beds. Each room is a single occupancy room ranging from 20 to 24 square meters. Each room will have its own accessible bathroom suitable for wheelchair use. Additionally, the care home will feature common areas for relaxation, kitchen facilities, and sauna facilities.
In proximity to the care unit, preparations are currently underway on the second floor of the Kampa building for the next construction site. TYKS Psychiatry is centralizing its reception facilities on campus, with new spaces being built according to the client's needs and preferences. These new facilities will now enable the consolidation of dispersed specialized psychiatric services into shared spaces.
The design of both units has been planned with space for future growth in mind. Constructing functional spaces within relatively new, previously open-plan office areas also makes sense from a cost perspective.
Social and healthcare sector contracts are sparking discussions
Salo IoT Campus's recent initiatives to address the space needs of social and healthcare sector operators have sparked discussions. "Certainly, some have wondered why Salo IoT Campus is establishing a care unit. However, our mission is to lease office spaces, and we don't want to be narrow-minded about this matter. With over 90,000 square meters of leasable space in total, we cannot rely solely on one card,' says Atte Köykkä, CEO of Salo IoT Campus. "IoT industry players and more broadly technology companies are important customer segments for us, but that doesn't exclude other operators. From the outset, service companies have also been a key target group for us, and it's great that we have been able to expand our offerings in this area, " Köykkä continues.
Healthcare sector companies can also benefit from the synergies brought by Salo IoT Campus's community, just like other companies on campus. For example, the care unit is intended to collaborate closely with companies in the area and Turku University of Applied Sciences. "The care unit will serve as a workplace and training ground for healthcare and nursing students, and additionally, the unit will be used to pilot new health technology, " Köykkä explains.
