T/a Justiina will start offering student lunches supported by Kela at Salo IoT Campus in August. The student lunch will continue to be available at Kiila restaurant.
Turku University of Applied Sciences (Turun Ammattikorkeakoulu) has hundreds of students enrolled at its Salo campus located in Salo IoT Campus. During a recent campus restaurant renovation, the availability of student lunches was threatened when the previous restaurant partner, Compass Group, ceased operations at the campus in February. A solution to continue student lunches was actively sought in collaboration with Turku University of Applied Sciences, the City of Salo, and the Turku University of Applied Sciences Student Union (TUO). A temporary solution was provided by the City of Salo, which has been offering student lunches at the campus during the spring semester. Now, a more permanent solution has been found, and a new operator will begin offering student lunches at the campus at the start of the autumn semester.
Salo IoT Campus and t/a Justiina have signed a lease agreement for the Kiila kitchen. Starting from the beginning of the autumn semester, Justiina will begin offering student lunches supported by Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland) at the Kiila restaurant. In addition, the company will provide meal services in the Greater Salo area. Justiina primarily offers warm home-cooked meals made from Finnish ingredients, delivered to homes for the elderly and others in need in Salo and nearby municipalities.
Salo IoT Campus CEO Atte Köykkä is very pleased with the solution. "During the spring, we explored numerous options to ensure the continuation of student lunches, and it's fantastic that we were able to reach an agreement with a local operator." Köykkä also thanks the City of Salo for providing a temporary solution: "A heartfelt thank you to the City of Salo for this spring; with your assistance, we ensured uninterrupted student lunches during the campus restaurant reform."
Turku University of Applied Sciences CEO Vesa Taatila is also pleased with the news. "We are extremely happy that Salo IoT Campus has found a functional and long-lasting solution for student dining services. It supports Turku University of Applied Sciences' opportunities to strengthen its operations at Salo IoT Campus."
