The story of Nuviz Inc. began in San Diego, U.S., where a couple of motorcycling enthusiasts had a great business idea: a device that could be attached to any motorcycling helmet, combining a navigator, a camera, a music player and a helmet phone. Yet product development didn’t seem to gain momentum.
When news about Microsoft shutting down operations in Salo reached San Diego, some product development experts’ phones started ringing. Now the majority of Nuviz’s employees, about 30 individuals, work in the Nuviz product development unit on Salo IoT Campus. The company has brought its innovative Head-Up Display – first of its kind – to market.
“The campus has an unusually cohesive and collaborative atmosphere. Here, we take genuine joy in each other’s successes. And when somebody is looking for partners or new talents, everyone is happy to open their networks,” says Petri Hirvonen, Senior Rider, Product Management, Sales & Marketing at Nuviz Oy.
Hirvonen, like many others in Nuviz’s team, is a long-standing motorcycling aficionado. That is why the company knows how to create technologies that bikers genuinely need. When a device combines a variety of features, the ease of use is essential. “You could say we are constantly developing the best possible product also for ourselves,” Hirvonen says.
Investing in user experience and usability has paid off: though Nuviz’s product hasn’t been on the market for long, the feedback from bikers around the world has been very enthusiastic. The product has also won a myriad of prizes for innovation excellence.
